Fall 2026 CTE Open Classroom Program October 126 – November 6

The CTE is inviting all instructors to participate in the Open Classroom Program taking place during Oct 26-Nov 6. The program gives colleagues the opportunity to visit classrooms to experience different teaching environments and practices, encourage a dialogue across departments/programs, and see how learners interact in different settings. We hope this exercise will promote reflection and conversation about learning and teaching.  This program has a potential of connecting faculty for future teaching observations. Please share with us your willingness to open your class or visit someone’s class (or both) by September 18. The CTE will then coordinate the classroom visits.

Open Classroom Program Overview

Held each semester, the University of New Haven Center for Teaching Excellence Open Classroom Program gives colleagues the opportunity to visit classrooms to experience different teaching environments and practices, encourage a dialogue across departments/programs, and see how learners interact in different settings. We hope this exercise will promote reflection and conversation about learning and teaching.

All classes continue as normal – these visits are not for evaluative purposes and there is no expectation of special classes, or any additional work involved. Hosts and visitors are encouraged to talk about the experience after the class and share learning takeaways.

Benefits for hosts:

  • An opportunity to share good practice and open a discussion around teaching.
  • Meet colleagues from different areas/schools/departments to share ideas and perhaps start to look at collaborative projects and activities.

Benefits for visitors:

  • Gain insight into the student experience.
  • Be inspired by seeing other curriculum areas and teaching styles.
  • Opportunities to connect with your colleagues.

*All COVID guidelines will be upheld including room occupancy limits

Open Classroom Program Kudos

After each Open Classroom Program the CTE collects “kudos” from instructors who visited their colleagues classrooms. This can be done anonymously or with credit given. It is not a requirement of the program, just a feel-good way to show appreciation for our colleagues! See below for kudos from previous semesters.
